◆Japan's centenarians top 40,000 as graying of society accelerates

The number of centenarians in Japan is expected to reach 40,399 in mid-September, breaking the 40,000 threshold for the first time at an accelerated pace, a government survey showed Friday as the latest evidence that society is graying rapidly.
